We are a Bible-based, non-denominational Christian church in Athens, Georgia. We are multi-ethnic and multi-generational, made up of students and professionals, singles, married couples, and families. Our Sunday service is casual and friendly with meaningful worship music, applicable teaching from the Bible, and a fun kids' program.

South Grove Church is the third church plant sent out by Clear River Church in Lafayette, IN. We began services in August 2019 at The Classic Center in downtown Athens. About 35 adults, some singles, some married couples and families with kids, all uprooted their lives in Lafayette, Indiana to make Athens their home and start South Grove Church. We believe Jesus asked us to come to Athens to establish another church that helps people to know His love for them and the freedom He offers us through the forgiveness of sin.

As it began to be clear that God was leading us to start a church in Athens, one of the first things Bobby Malicoat (the pastor to lead this church) asked God was what he wanted to name the church. "Grove" became one of the first things to stand out regarding the name, both because of Georgia peaches, and because of this text in Revelation 22:2:

"...on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."

Our hope is to be a church that is fruit-bearing and that brings life and healing to Athens as well as future cities and universities where we plant churches.
